Background: How Open Democracy can help resolve some of the world's most pressing issues

While the South Australian bill protecting the right to life of babies at or beyond 28 weeks was narrowly defeated by just one vote, the issue remains alive with Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price indicating  she “cannot agree” with late term abortions and considers full-term abortion as "infanticide.”

With the federal election coming up, senior Liberal politicians were quick to rebuke Senator Price, cynically concluding that votes are more important that the lives of babies:

Senior Coalition women have rebuked Jacinta Nampijinpa Price’s comments about abortion, saying the Liberal party had “no interest in unwinding women’s reproductive rights” and saying it was an issue advanced by “fringe” politicians. The Guardian

What those rebuking Senator Price are failing to realize is that the days of politicians setting the agenda and dictating what issues can or can't be discussed are coming to an end.

Through open democracy, we now have both the concept and technology to debate these issues in a safe environment, away from the trolls, the bots and the haters and, as a community, to arrive at a right balance between choice and responsibility.

Open democracy puts meaning into the term "representative democracy". We elect politicians to represent our views not to impose their views based on personal beliefs, party ideology or lobby group pressure.

The legal right to life should extend to babies at or beyond 28 weeks, as long as there are no medical complications threatening the life of the baby, mother, or both? (Agree/Disagree)

While this relates to an Australia debate, the implications are global so all feedback is welcome.
