Backgtround: Project Open Democracy

Attacks on free speech are attacks on Australian democracy itself. Free speech is absolutely essential to a functioning democracy: there is no democracy without it.

Senator Pauline Hanson is proposing a referendum to insert free speech into the Australian Constitution and protect it for all time.

We want to make sure all Australians can express their opinions and engage in open dialogue on matters of public interest without the threat of censorship or legal action.

Why is this important?

Protecting and strengthening democracy: free speech is a fundamental principle of democracy, empowering citizens to participate fully in public life and hold those in power accountable.

Defending satire and criticism: satire is a powerful tool for social and political commentary, allowing us to question, critique, and reflect on our society and government.

Encouraging community voices: by enshrining free speech in the Constitution, we protect the diversity of opinions and encourage a robust exchange of ideas in the Australian community.

Supporting the protection of free speech in our Constitution includes:

  • Defending the right to satire and criticism as essential components of a healthy democracy.
  • Standing up for a diverse and open public discourse, free from unnecessary censorship.

Together, we can ensure that Australia remains a country where free speech is valued and protected. Let your voice be heard and join us in this vital cause.

To what extent do you support the call for a referendum to enshrine free speech in the Australian constitution.

About PByT Surveys & Open Democracy

The PByT surveys represent a rolling snapshot of global sentiment from real people whose identity has been verified. The results can be analyzed in a variety of ways to get a better understanding of key issues utilizing Bayesian statistics - a mathematical concept that updates beliefs in light of new data or evidence.

As a result, these surveys have the potential to be the most definitive resources on some of the most critically important issues of modern times and serve as the basis for the idea of "open democracy."

Have your say and help shape the interconnected world of tomorrow based on trust, mutual-aid and cooperation.
