Australian Political Leadership
Is Pauline Hanson the right person to lead Australia into the future?
Pauline Hanson’s National Press Club address presented an alternative vision for Australia’s future, seeking to explain why the country is changing and what should be done about it.
Her appeal is strengthened by a growing perception that the major political parties are more willing to attack or dismiss her, rather than present a compelling alternative vision of their own. For many Australians, promises of continuity and incremental change may no longer seem sufficient in a rapidly changing world.
Project Open Democracy offers a different explanation. It argues that many of today’s political, economic and social challenges are symptoms of a much deeper transformation in the way society is organised. Because it begins with a different diagnosis, it also leads to different solutions.
This provides a useful point of comparison in assessing Pauline Hanson’s vision for Australia and deciding whether she has the right plan to right Australia’s future.
