Australia’s Energy Future
Should nuclear power become part of Australia’s energy mix?
← Australia's Political Leadership
Supporters of nuclear energy argue that it can provide reliable, low-emission electricity when renewable energy sources are not producing sufficient power. They believe it could strengthen energy security and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
Critics point to the high cost and long construction time of nuclear facilities, the challenge of radioactive waste and the possibility that investment in nuclear energy could divert resources from renewables, storage and improvements to the electricity grid.
The debate is therefore not simply about whether nuclear technology works. It is whether nuclear power represents a practical, affordable and timely addition to Australia’s future energy system.
Question:
To what extent do you agree or disagree that Australia should include nuclear power as part of its long-term energy mix?
