Australia has conducted numerous inquiries, reviews and reforms addressing domestic and family violence, yet women continue to be killed by current or former partners.

Calls for a Royal Commission into the killing of Australian women and girls reflect a belief that the country needs to look beyond individual cases and examine whether deeper systemic and societal failures are being overlooked.

Such an inquiry could examine prevention, policing, courts, frontline services and perpetrator behaviour, but also the broader question raised by this discussion: why are so many people developing violent behaviours in the first place, and where is the socialisation process failing?
